BEST WISHES ON THE AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF "GANESH CHATURTHI"
Dear Readers,
Today, 14-September-2026 is being Celebrated as "Ganesh Chatruthi" as the Birth Day of Lord Ganesh. Normally, every year, as per Indian Calender System, the 4th Day of the "Sukla Pakshya"(Moonlight Fort Night) of the Indian Month of "Bhadrab" is celebrated as the Birth Day of Lord Genesh and called as "Ganesh Chaturthi".
"Ganesh Chaturthi" is being celebrated today, across India and all over the World where Indians live and celebrate it.
Around the World, "Lord Ganesh" is very fondly recognized as "Elephant Headed God". At least in the many countries of the World I have travelled in the past, during friendly discussions, invariably people would ask a question about our
"Elephant Headed God".
The Story of "Lord Ganesh" being made an "Elephant Headed God" is equally interesting, exciting and always has an avenue of a lesson to learn out of it . When Lord Ganesh was a small child, once His Mother "Devi Parvati", in her abode, went to take Bath instructing "Lord Ganesh" as her dear son, to remain at the Gate of that Abode as its Responsible Gate Keeper and not allow anybody entering the place as long as she was taking the Bath. "Lord Ganesh" as a small child and the son of "Devi Parvati" remained guarding the gate. In the mean while "Lord Shiva" ( Lord "Mahadev" who is respected as the Boss of the Gods, hence called as "Maha Dev") who in fact, happened to be the Father of Lord Ganesh also, came to visit and meet "Devi Parvati" exactly at that time and asked "Lord Ganesh" to allow entery through the gate to reach "Devi Parvati" as His Wife. "Lord Shiva" tried to convince "Lord Ganesh" that He had every right to visit and meet "Devi Parvati" who was His Wife, besides her being the mother of "Lord Ganesh". As a Child to both, "Lord Ganesh" should understand that. However, "Lord Ganesh" stuck to the Principle that His Mother has given him the "Responsibility of Gate Keeper with Her instructions not to allow anyone through the Gate till she was taking Bath" and He could not allow anyone to infringe her instructions and dignity. "Lord Shiva" got upset and also being "Maha Dev" and having unlimited power of Destruction ( Like Lord Brahma is considered the creator, and Lord Vishnu as the administrator and Lord Shiva as the Destroyer for all Good of Universe as per our faith) did not want to create a "Bad Precedence" that a small child could prevent the Father from "His Rights" to meet his(child's) Mother. So, "Lord Shiva" declared the War to force His Entry through the Gate to assert his "Rights of Entry" and "Lord Ganesh" also agreed to face the War with His Own Father "Mahadev". Obviously "Lord Ganesh" lost and was beheaded by "Lord Shiva". Then came "Devi Parvati" out of her Bath and saw her Son having been beheaded by her "Husband Lord Shiva" in the War between the "Father and Son". "Devi Parvati" then threatened "Lord Shiva" that She was going to kill herself if Her Son was not made to be Alive. "Lord Shiva" had no way, He (Lord Shiva) could not Lose His Most Loved Wife "Devi Parvati" also, hence a compromise was made. "Lord Shiva" agreed to revive "Lord Ganesh" and asked His Soldiers to get a "Head for Lord Ganesh" as "Lord Ganesh's Original Human Faced Head" had been chopped off and thrown away during the war and was not traceable. Thus Lord Shiva's soldiers could get to manage an Elephant Kid's Head ( that is a long story behind..... let us keep aside) that was transplanted on "Lord Ganesh" to come to life again. However, Lord Shiva being pleased with the Principle of Lord Ganesh to uphold to his Responsibility and Sacrifice as a son having lost His original head and having acquired the Elephant Head, declared that "Lord Ganesh" will be first God to be Invited before any other God in any Worshipping Rituals and He should enjoy this "Supreme Priority" that should hold good.
Here always a Question remained, why "Lord Ganesh" did not ask His Mother "Devi Parvati" for her Permission as the Gate Keeper to allow "Lord Shiva" through the Gate while He was also the Father? The answer was very Logical and Conscience grounded, the Mother had gone to take Bath asking the son to remain as Gate Keeper to the Place, "Lord Ganesh" had no choice, He was helpless to go back to the Mother to seek Her Permission to allow through the Gate, while she was taking Bath, the "Dignity of the Mother" was at stake for "Lord Ganesh" that He Could Not Afford, other than losing His Head as the cost of it.
Lord Ganesh is considered as a very Kind God, if He has to Protect anyone will protect at all costs, He is known to Bless Profusely and Protect also profusely.
Lord Ganesh is considered as the "God of Knowledge". He is worshipped in Educational Institutions of India today, other than being Worshipped Publicly.
Best Wishes to All and Everyone on the Auspicious Occasion of "Ganesh Chaturthi".
