THE NEWS OF MD&CEO OF HDFC BANK STEPPING DOWN : THIS IS WHAT THE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR RIGHTLY POSTULATES TO BE NORMAL: GOOD FOR THE NATION

Dear Readers,

This note is relying on a beautiful Situation that can give good learning to the Academics and Practice.

In last two days, there have been many news publications in public domain that the MD&CEO of HDFC Bank, the Largest Private Sector Bank of India, Shri Sashidhar Jagdishan will go stepping down and retiring on 26-October-2026, when his Present Term of Appointment expires and no new term of appointment will be there for him. I am sure you have read about it, however I am giving some links below, otherwise also you will get to read by your choice, the International Reliable Media Reuters also reported it :

Months after HDFC Bank chair quit, CEO says won't stay beyond Oct

I had posted about it earlier and all of you have read here who are able to read here with certain postulations expected in this context.
This is expected outcome and it was written in the wall from the day the Former Chairman of HDFC Bank, Mr. Atanu Chakravarty had resigned in revolt on 17/18-March-2026 citing value and ethical concerns in his resignation letter. It is in Good National Interest as the Bank Concerned is a Very Big Sized Bank, a National Level Organization having stake in Indian Economy and the largest private sector Bank of India.
When such Stepping Downs happen, lot of goody goody language will be said in the media, as if the Board of the Bank was persuading desperately to the incumbent to stay for another term as the media reports publish as PR language propagated... to give good soothing feelings to none but the departer.  But the Facts remain facts.

By Academic as well as Practicing Principles, the Organizational Structure such as this, where the Chairman of the Board of Directors is a Non-Executive Chairman driving the Board without Executive Powers, and the MD & CEO is bestowed with All Executive Powers, the MD&CEO if happens to be resorting to bullying and will be having tendency to do so, can hijack the Board of the Organization to his command, and if the person can not assimilate how the conducts would cost the Organization, can dent the Organization Structure and Standing of the Organization substantially, quite visibly, unless checked appropriately.

The Stepping Down of the MD&CEO at the term expiry in such Organization Structure, without giving another term of office, is a right step to check the process of degeneration and decay in the Organization's Processes and Existence Parameters. This is Good in National Interest.

This will be good food for thought for the Academics, Practitioners and Students of Management.

While I had written here earlier citing the Public Domain News and Happenings since March 2026 tracking it, had in fact postulated happening that was expected in the due interest of the Organization and in National Interest, and the same has happened.
