THE VAUE OF "YOGA" : TO A LADY COMMONER OF 75YEARS-AN EXPERIENCE : REMEMBERING ON INTERNATIONAL "YOGA" DAY (21-JUNE)
( Version: 2.0 on 21-June-2026 )
Dear Readers,
Today June 21, is being celebrated as the "International Yoga Day" world wide. Do join the World Community in Celebrating this auspicious day. In this note I am going to dwell on an interesting experience, that will show what a Great Value that Yoga can have for human health fitness and wellbeing, please do read with little patience even if the text may be bit long.
The "International Yoga Day" has been adopted by the World at the instance of our Nation India in 2014 and is being celebrated from 21-June-2015. Our Honourable Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi Ji, during his excellency's first year of office in 2014 as the Hon'ble PM of India, mobilized the whole world, gave a speech in the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) in 2014 appealing to All UNGA Member Nations to Adopt June-21 as the International Yoga Day and almost All Nations Voted in favour of the Proposal, thus from 21-June-2015 the day June-21 is being celebrated as International Yoga Day. The Hon'ble PM Shri Modi Ji deserves the Credit of getting the World accept and adopt the "International Yoga Day" (through UNGA Resolution in 2014) on June-21 and this Credit will stay with His Excellency for all times to come and for ever. In fact it is heartening to know from the public news that Our Hon'ble PM is also leading the "International Yoga Day" Celebrations at the Historic Red Road of Kolkata (West Bengal) today where 1000s of public participants have joined to celebrate as a Grand Celebration of the Day. Of course we can not be shy of acknowledging and appreciating if some good work is hapening in our National Interest, that I am making clear as a point of view from my side very firmly, even if some may like it or not.
I have an Article here with the same subject title, I wrote on 21-June-2023 on the International Yoga Day of that year ( it is here in my Blog : drnimain.blogspot.com verifiable) you can read accessing directly also here in my Blog; documenting as a Truth of Experience, with a 75-Year Old Commoner Lady from Ahmedabad, Gujarat who had given me a lesson of life while I was the Free Yoga Teacher of her from 1998-2003 there, as she felt the "Value of Yoga" to her at that advanced age, it remains unforgettable. I have written several articles in my said Blog on Yoga and International Yoga Day, that are there.
Precisely, I learnt to do Yoga from "Bharatiya Yoga Sansthan" a voluntary organization of India established in 1967 who run "free for all" yoga sansthans (as their branches) all around India in public parks/places as a service to the people. Since I did yoga very well and did lot of studies of it also to understand its scientific basis as a science student and technocrat, recognizing me "Bharatiya Yoga Sansthan" had designated me as a "Voluntary Yoga Teacher" and I was doing this free service from 1998-2003 while I was 38-43years young then, when lot of older people and also young people at Ahmedabad, Gujarat used to come to a public park near the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court Bungalow at Bodakdev, Ahmedabad, in the morning everyday from 6AM to 7AM and I was one of the Voluntary Yoga Teachers there from 1998-2003.
I came across a 75-Years Old Commoner Lady coming to that Public Park to learn and do Yoga with us during that period 1998-2003 (can't remember exact year of it as very old case). I observed as the Teacher to Teach her to learn Yoga, the Old and Advanced aged lady was struggling a lot to do the Yogasans (Yoga Postures) but she was quite determined to do it. So one day I asked her out of my curiosity as to why she is struggling a lot to do yoga with us? And she answered the following :
" My Husband is 24hours on Oxygen at my home. I am the Only Person to look after him, as we two persons are living at my home. I have to remain fit to take care of my Husband, otherwise who will take care of him? So I come here to learn and do yoga to remain fit to help my husband while he is ailing."
After hearing her story, the story of the Honourble Gujarati Lady of 75-years then and her courage and commitment to it, that gave me a lesson for life, I became very emotional and touched her feet. She Blessed me a lot and very profusely saying "Baba, You remain Fit and Disease Free to teach Yoga to Others to remain Fit". From that day as long as I was teaching yoga in that public park as a voluntary service ( as at the end of 2005 I left Ahmedabad, Gujarat to live at Mumbai, Maharashtra for last 21years), I took special care of that 75-year lady so that she could do yoga with utmost ease, so that she did not hurt herself by anymeans there by any process so that she would be able to meet her purpose for which she was coming to yoga as a determined mind with a noble cause. The Blessings of the 75-years Commoner Lady of Gujarat of those days stay with me.
( ...I would not know whether the Hon'ble Gujarati Lady whose story I am sharing will be there in the World or in Heaven now, as she was 75years then, and it was 23 years back at least, but her blessings do remain ).
I wish all Sucess of the Celebration of Internatonal Yoga Day today on 21-June-2026 being done world wide and to all participants of this auspicious day celebrations.
Let me say to everyone, you can do Yoga during anytime of the day, when you have 4-hours minimum Empty Stomach ( means during minimum last 4hours you have not had a meal ), however, it is done during the morning and evening for all best of its advantages.
