MOST OF THE TIMES "THE TYRANT BOSS" IN THE ORGANIZATION SHOULD BE AN INCOMPETENT ONE WITH INFERIORITY COMPLEX

Dear Readers,

This note may have a point to be noted by the Faculty who teach in the OB-HR (Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management) Area, the Students and All of you in General who may be working anywhere or else where in various organizations of any type and kind.

It has been observed empirically in several and many organizations, that "Most of the Times" the "Boss" who behaves "Tyrant" on the "Subordinate", is incompetent and suffers from the inferiority complex from the subordinate.

A Boss is somebody, who holds a Position of Seniority from a Subordinate, having the level of higher power in the Organization Structure. Normally a Boss is somebody to whom a Subordinate reports in the Organization, however it may not be always, there may be a Boss who may not be an immediate senior to report, he/she may be a Position Holder with Higher Level Power in the Organization.

Normally, a Boss becomes Tyrant under the following circumstances:

1. The Boss is incompetent for the Position he/she holds.

2. The Boss finds the Subordinate is more Bright, more Intelligent, more Qualified and more Knowledgeable there by, more competent than him/her. That generates an inferiority complex within him/her towards the subordinate.

3. The Boss is involved in Activities, that are not approvable within the Organization System or may be outside in the society, and the Subordinate knowing such facts being a close operator in the system; the Boss would like to suppress these facts by making the Subordinate getting into silence on these matters and the subordinate does not dare to open mouth on it.

4.  The Boss has to hide something,

5.  The Boss intends to misuse the Subordinate, therefore, to make the subordinate afraid and surrendering to  his/her plans of action so that the subordinate will not resist and object to his/her misuse being in fear.

6.  The Boss has fears within himself /herself that the Organization may give his/her position  to the Subordinate ultimately replacing himself/herself or sidelining himself/herself in the Organization.

7.  The Subordinate has direct access to another Boss who may be a Boss of more Seniority to the "Tyrant Boss" and holding more power in the Organization so the "Tyrant Boss" is feeling threatened by that.

You check any where, where there is a Boss who is behaving Tyrant towards the Subordinate, the situation will fit into the above 7-Circumstance. I am not saying these 7-Circumstances are exhaustive, there may any other specific circumstance also, however in most of the cases the situation if analysed may fit to the above 7-Circumstances.

When I say "Tyranny" of the Boss; the Following are some of the Behaviours of a "Tyrant" Boss:

1. The Boss using abusive language to the Subordinate unduly.

2. The Boss using the language of "Threat" of his Power which can cause some damage in some way to the Subordinate.

3. The Boss asking the Subordinate to work extremely long hours that can literally exhaust the energy and stamina of the subordinate (it is much worse condition imposed, than some over working hours that are generally workable and needed in some organization considered acceptable depending on position).

4. The Boss insulting the Subordinate, in front of other colleagues or outsiders to the Organization to frustrate and downgrade the self esteem of the subordinate.

5. The Boss using and giving responsibility to a colleague, who is junior to the Subordinate, to frustrate and pin the Subordinate concerned.

6.  The Boss not allowing "leave" to the Subordinate in deserving situations and reasons of the Subordinate and Subordinate's Family. Most of the times in Social Occasions and Events of the Family where the Subordinate will have reasons to be present and seek leave which he/she may be entitled even with pay or without pay (if it amounts to that); intentionally the Boos will show non existing or manageable exigencies in absence of the subordinate, and will not grant leave to the Subordinate to give mental frustration and pains to the subordinate to demoralize him/her.

7.  The Boss trying to hold the Subordinate within his/her work area only and not allowing lateral or vertical movement of the subordinate within the organization for career progression, or not allowing/recommending transfer of the Subordinate elsewhere in the Organization for the Subordinate to get relief from the Tyranny of the Tyrant Boss.

The above Seven Situations  of Behaviours of a Boss will quality the Boss to be called as a "Tyrant Boss". I say again that these situations are not Exhaustive, there can by any other specific situation, however most of the times the situations of Behaviour of a Tyrant Boss will fit into the above situations.

In other words let me say, the Good and Non-Tyrant Boss is a Person, who is Mostly Competent for his/her position held by him/her, he/she is very knowledgeable and qualified, that commands respect from the Subordinate, he/she creates most soothing conditions in his/her work area so that the Subordinate finds it more pleasant to work and to work more voluntarily without being asked to do that, he/she understands the family needs of the Subordinate and at the Critical Times of Family need helps the Subordinate going out of the way, helps in Career Progression of the Subordinate, most of the times the Subordinates of the work areas outside that of the Good and Non-Tyrant Boss would be looking forward to come and work in his/her work area, over all the Good and Non-Tyrant Boss is an Inspiring Boss in the Organization.

This Note is Small, however, I am sure all of you will find substance inside it when you look around or reflect over the situations you might have come across in your life so far.

This is my original writing over my empirical observations over close to 40years in many organizations, I claim this to my merit and declare it with benevolence.

With best regards,
