IT IS GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT THE FIRST DRAFT WRITER OF INDIAN CONSTITUTION ; THE STALWART SON OF INDIA : SIR B N RAU

Dear Readers,

I came across and read the following article in the Public Domain on "Sir B N Rau" (Sir Benegal Narsing Rau), who was the first Draft Writer of Indian Constitution after India's Independence of India in 1947. I am giving the link of the said article from the public domain here below for some of you or all of you who might not have seen or read it to read it by your own choice if you like so:

He wrote India's first Constitution draft, but history forgot him

Sir Benegal Narsing Rau was born in Mangalore on February 26,1887, to his Father who was a Doctor and Educationist. He was one of the few Indians who after having graduated with Top Honours from the Presidency College of Madras, had gone to the Trinity College, Cambridge in those days.

He was an ICS Officer having joined the Indian Civil Service in 1910.  He had taken the responsibility of re-writing the major part of Statutory Frame Work of Government of India Act, 1935 which was recognised by the then British Government ruling India and he was knighted for that.

In i944 Sir B N Rau was the then Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for short stint.
In 1947, Sir B N Rau was made the Constitutional Advisor to the Constituent Assembly, that was formed to rule India after Independence and was in the process of preparing the Constitution of India. As the Constitutional Adviser to Constituent Assembly then, Sir B N Rau traveled around the world, did the consultations with other important nations on Constitutions and he wrote the first draft of the Constitution of India, that was examined as the Base by the Constitution Drafting Committee then led by Baba Saheb Ambedkar to go into the Final Version of the Constitution of India which was adopted in 1949.

Sir B N Rau's commendable and prominent specific contributions to the Indian Constitution are the Article 32 that empowers a Citizen to Approach the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India for remedy in case the Fundamental Rights of a Citizen are violated and also the phrase " procedure established by law” that establishes balance between the Parliament and the Judiciary that the readers can find mentioned from the above citation.

It is widely recognized that Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Ambedkar was the Chief Architect of the Constitution of India as he was the Chief and Leader of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution of India then.

As it happens normally in the World, the Background Workers who might have worked with prominent efforts, remain in the hindsight, possibly for such normal reasons Sir B N Rau having drafted the First Draft of the Constitution of India then has remained in hindsight as the said public domain article has said. Moreover, Sir B N Rau was not a Political Leader, he was an ICS Officer, thus brought in from Bureaucracy at that time, he worked though prominently but in the background, hence he has not come so much to the lime light through the history. However his contributions to Indian Constitution will always remain known as the Prominent Back Ground work leading to its final form, it goes without saying.

It will be definitely Good for everyone to know Sir B N Rau as a Stalwart Son of India having done such prominent work and efforts for the Nation in the Back Ground. The article has appeared today in the Public Domain brought in by the India Today, while Sir B N Rau's birth day has just gone two days back on February 26.
