NATIONAL UNITY DAY (RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS) ON 31ST OCTOBER AS THE BIRTH DAY OF "SARDAR VALLABH BHAI PATEL" THE IRON MAN OF INDIA


Dear Readers,

Today, the 31st October is being celebrated as "National Unity Day" ( Rashtriya Ekta Diwas), as the Birth Day of "Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel", popularly called as the "Iron Man of India" who was One of the Tallest Leaders of the India's Freedom Movement and also the First Home Minister of India post Independence of India in 1947. 

India's Freedom Movement from British Rule that stretched over almost centuries, had a Number of Tallest Leaders who spearheaded the Freedom Movement at different stretches and periods of Freedom Movement. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was one of the Tallest Leaders of Freedom Movement of India at his times and while the Independence of India was achieved on 15-August-1947.  In the first Union Cabinet of India that was formed in the Independent India after 15-August-1947 the independence day of India, Sardar Patel served as the First Home Minister of India. 

While the British Rulers left in India by giving Independence to the People of India, in 1947, as their vengeance and jealousy of having been forced to give Independence to the People of India,  they also tried to engineer, the very major partition of India into India and Pakistan then, which has later become India, Pakistan and Bangladesh (that was born out of Pakistan of 1947 by Indo-Pak war of 1971) the 3-Nations of today and at contemporary times. At the same time, when Britishers left India giving independence to the people of India, they also tried to engineer and leave loop holes in the Indian Territory, by almost leaving some of the Large Kingly Ruled Estates and Territories that were operating within India then from whom the British Rulers were collecting Taxes but allowing them to Rule those territories by their own rule (Kingly Rule). Some examples are such as Kashmir (Ruled by its King then) and Hyderabad (Ruled by its Nizam then) while there were a number of others who were aspiring to operate as Independent Territories within the Indian Territory of that time, and Britishers had Engineered in such a way that India ultimately becomes a fragmented set of territories and not as large an unified territory we have today as One Nation. Even at that time the Territory of Goa (Our Present Day's Goa State) was being ruled by the Portugese Rulers as a Separate Territory. 

Sardar Patel as the First Home Minister of India, took right actions and was instrumental in bringing all those Kingly Ruled Estates within Indian Territory to submit to the Constitution of India and the Laws of India, as part and parcel very much of Indian Union which we see today as the Large Unified Nation of India. Later on, the Territory of Goa, that is our State of Goa of today,  was also brought into Indian Union. Sardar Patel used the Powers and Laws of the Indian Nation in iron hands to bring in the Unity that we find in India today as a Large Unified Indian Nation following the Constitution of India as an Unified Indian Territory. Therefore, Sardar Patel is Popularly called as "Iron Man of India". In fact, if Sardar Patel should not have taken the actions at that time rightly at right time, may be the picture of Large Unified Nation of India we find today, might have been different for all of us as a cause to lament as Indians today. 

In fact, today 31-October-2025 is the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Nation is celebrating this day, 31-October, the birth day of Sardar Patel as the "National Unity Day" ( Rashtriya Ekta Diwas). 
Today, there has been big celebrations of the National Unity Day at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, at the Statue of Unity, where in the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi Ji has graced the Occasion by the presence of His Excellency in the said National Celebratory Function of today by paying the deserved tribute to the "Iron Man of India" from the Nation.
