"AMUL" CLEAN FUEL RALLY AND "COMPRESSED BIO GAS(CBG)" MESSAGE
Dear Readers,
Heard that GCMMF (Gujarat Co-op. Milk Marketing Federation Ltd) is organizing "Amul" Clean Fuel Rallies starting from 4-Terminal Points of India such as Kolkata, Gandhinagar, Jammu and Pune to spread the news of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) as a clean fuel.
The "Amul" Clean Fuel Inaugural Rally has been jointly flagged off by our IRMAN Friend (PRM-10) and Present GCMMF MD - Mr. Jayen Mehta along with the then Director- In-charge of IRMA Prof. Madhavi Mehta from IRMA Campus on 19-Nov-2024, day before yesterday, is announced through a Post in the IRMA Official Facebook Page I came to know through Public Domain. It is said that the several Rallies (Bike Rallies) being so organized by GCMMF from different terminal locations of India, spreading the message of Compressed Bio Gas(CBG), will converge at New Delhi on 26-Nov-2024, on the National Milk Day, which is the Birth Day of Dr. V. Kurien. The Theme and the Purpose of these "Amul Clean Fuel Rallies" to converge on the recognized "National Milk Day" are well appreciated.
"Amul" as a Brand, as a Concept and also as a Philosophy (which will not be wrong to say) has been synonymous with Milk almost over 8-Decades so far (starting from 1950s) to date.
It is also given to understand that GCMMF (Amul) is now trying to undertake some projects of bigger scale, that would primarily involve using the Cow-Dung / Boffalow-Dung generated at the Dairy-Farming-Households to produce Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) which can be used as the Environment Friendly Clean Fuel, and getting back better economic value out of the "Dung" to the Dairy-Farmer rearing Cattle for milk production concurrently.
While the idea of getting into CBG production as Clean Fuel by utilizing the Cow-Dung / Boffalow-Dung (Even Camel-Dung where available), will have National Interest not only from Environmental Point of View, it will give some better Economic Value to the Dairy Farmers, at the same time it would also contribute towards lessening the dependence on Hydro-Carbon Fuel (Petrol, Diesel, LPG etc.) while India is now largely dependent on Hydrocarbon Fuel by Imports(with lot of forex expenditure) is well appreciated. Also, Globally, there is lot of Dialogue to ultimately Phase Out the Hydro-Carbon Fuel entirely and in totality in future.. if the proceedings of the UN's COP-28 Conference at Dubai, UAE last year ( 2023)is referred to.
However, it will always remain a fact that GCMMF's (Amul's ) Core-Competence is in "MIlk". The CBG projects will remain as back-ward integrated side-extension, to be very clear of it, irrespective of its scale and spread, turf and domain or economic returns whatever magnitude may be the attraction in all ways. The "Milk" is the "Food" ultimately and CBG is a "Fuel", I am very clear of this distinction in my opinion, and this distinction is going to stay. I am appreciating the CBG venture of GCMMF(Amul) in all ways, however as I said the "Food" as the Main-Stream focus for GCMMF and the "CBG" as the Backward-linked side-stream extension will remain with this distinction.
Further, with some very first hand observation in the past, the small scale(call it even micro scale) Bio-Gas Projects at Household levels (using Cattle-Dung), could not invariably last long, as the Households could not continue the initial motivation(that also came with subsidy incentive for going for it) in running and maintaining the Bio-gas Projects, as they got tired of it for various reasons and found it a bit cumbersome and hardship for them to manage, as it had inherent issues of managing the cattle-dung as the raw-material feed-stock and the bio-gas as the output.
Nevertheless, though I am not aware of it honestly, I believe GCMMF(Amul), knowing the scale at which they always operate, is venturing into the CBG interventions at a large scale at Community Level, hence its long term sustenance with economic vaility and return from the operations, along with environmental utility can be expected to work. By plain speaking, as much observation available, the CBG Projects can work as Community or Industry kind of Projects on Long Term, as the Dairy Projects do so as well. Household level Small/Micro Biogas projects are not being long-sustainable due to Household's degraded motivation and the draining of interest and means over some period of time. I am placing here as a General Observation/Opinion, and I admit, I am not the sole opinion maker or holder for the household bio-gas projects, there could be several views and some specific cases at household level may be sustaining, it is not impossible.
Whole heartedly wish all the Best for the CBG Projects to everyone in GCMMF(Amul) including our IRMAN friend, Mr. Jayen Mehta, MG-GCMMF as well. Hope for the Best.
Best regards,
