PRAYER FOR THE VICTIMS OF "HATHRAS STAMPEDE" OF YESTERDAY
(02-JULY-2024) IN UTTAR PRADESH,INDIA

Dear Readers,

Our Prayers are for the Victims of "Hathras Stampede" of yesterday ( 02-July-2024 ), that happened in Uttar Pradesh of India.

Due Condolences for the families of those who lost their lives and Due Prayers for those who have been injured, for their speedy recovery.

While Prayers for the Hathras Stampede Victims stay unstinted, I am writing the following few lines for your kind consideration, may be by keeping in mind will help us as a Nation in future, may be we lose much less of precious lives due to stampedes:
The Human Stampedes are Disasters of Human Tragedy, resulting out of "Some Triggers" that cause undue and sudden "Panic" or "Lure" (in some cases) among a huge crowd of people in an over crowded congregation.

We are a hugely populous country, a lot of people congregate in any event which may have a common connotation or purpose, for all of them, making it excessively crowded, it is empirically evidenced over the historical events of human stampede. We also have a population,  that goes through various situations and conditions affecting them in there life stages; and they have their beliefs of life with cultural orientations, thus they seek solace through various means that comes before them whether "Religious" or "Spiritual" or "Recreational" or "Social" practices, "to get mental peace and relief" and this perceived aspiration and quest of common people to get easily motivated and carried away, make them congregate at events overwhelmingly and thus cause oversized crowding.

Then, any reason that acts as a Trigger at such overcrowded congregations to cause a "Sudden Panic" or "Lure"(in some cases), and that sudden panic leads to Stampedes, the disasters of human tragedy. The Stampedes then when happen, are governed by the Jungle Rule "Survival of the Fittest", people operate in the wild without looking for a moment who is getting crushed, hence invariably in Stampedes, the more casualties will be of "Old, Women and Children" the weaker lot to find escape out of the terrible force of the Stampede, than the others.

The Times of India in the following news article I am giving link below, has listed the most horrific Stampedes over last 20years since 2003, that has caused human tragedy costing large number of lives:

The News 18 in its news article, the link of which I am giving below says(quoting below):
"A stampede is a sudden, uncontrolled rush of a large group of people driven by panic or fear. These incidents can occur at religious gatherings, concerts, sports events, or other crowded places. Stampedes are typically triggered by factors like rumours, perceived threats, poor crowd management, or overcrowded conditions, and can lead to serious injuries or fatalities due to trampling or suffocation. Crowd management and emergency planning are crucial to prevent and manage such situations".
Stampedes often lead to traumatic asphyxia in which respiration stops or partially stops due to external compression of the thorax or upper abdomen. Other possible reasons for death due to stampede are heart attacks, injuries due to direct crushing, head injuries and neck compression."

Although at all times it can not be anticipated or visualized as to where a stampede can happen when anyone participates in a crowded event out of own interest in it, as there will always be an unknown/unexpected/accidental/sudden trigger to cause a "Panic" or "Lure"(Some times) among congregated people leading to a Stampede. ..... However, many times, resisting the own temptation and emotion, and not surrendering (succumbing) or getting lured, to the "Panic" or "Lure" and not flowing with the crowd rushing in panic or lure is a way out of the Stampede for a normal and common person to sustain and survive... can be said as a golden rule. Those who run first of all to survive out of the fear of "Panic" or to fetch "some lure, which if not fetched, heaven will not fall for anyone", they get first exposed to the, "undue jungle rule of competition with the fittest that happens then" and some of them lose invariably by life.....and those who stay put and stay back for a while for the situation to cool down by controlling their temptation and emotion wisely with presence of mind, without getting hunted by the sudden panic or lure, they tend to sustain and survive. It is a fact that the weaker lot tend to run first out of panic and fear ( or when they do so to fetch any lure of the situation)... it happens. The "Panic" or "Lure"(sometimes) that gets generated during stampedes, stays for a very short time, however that short time of a Stampede, uncontrollably causes some lives to get extinguished or injured most painfully.

A simple and similar example if I can be allowed to give for demonstration purpose only... could be boarding the Mumbai Local Trains, those who have experience, at crowded local railway stations where the mad rush is like mini-stampede like situations many times, better to leave that train where everyone waiting is trying to get-in to the same train, and wait a while to take any of the next coming local trains that can be boarded with lesser stampede-like rush.... heaven does not fall by taking the next train and being some minutes delayed to reach the destination.

Many times it would be wiser to stay back and wait a while, to do a wait and watch for a while... and not run with a crowd for which it is making a sudden mad rush.

With Best regards,
