WHY SO MUCH IMPORTANCE IS BEING GIVEN BY THE PEOPLE OF INDIA TO NEET (MEDICAL -UG and PG) COURSES
Dear Readers,
Why so much importance is being given by the People of India
to NEET ( Medical - UG or PG ) courses.
The Primary Reason is Demand and Supply Gap, look
at the following situation existing right now:
Availability of seats to study:
MBBS … 92000( approx )
BDS …… 28000 ( approx )
Total …=1,20,000
Students applying for UG :
24 lakhs ( 24,00,000 )
It means Demand is 24-times of the Supply in UG
For PG Medical :
Seats Availability: 36000
Applying for PG : 2,09,000
( approx as per 2023 real data )
In PG the Demand is 5-times of Supply
This kind of Demand-Supply Gap is a real issue.
The Medical Profession is considered attractive, hence there is extremely high
Demand from people.
Since this ( Medical Education) is a highly
Expertise Subject area, it is very difficult also to establish medical colleges
for investment and other regulatory requirement to increase seats to reduce
demand supply gap.
A friend, a few years back, who used to work as
CEO of one of the foremost group (pvt) running Hospitals all over India and
abroad also, had told me, by trying for decades, they had been able to
establish only one medical college, in Hyderabad. Not naming, in fairness, but
you can guess, it is a fact.
We have a real problem of Demand and Supply.
Imagine for doing PG (Specialty) one has to be MBBS Doctor. Still there is
no guarantee that there will be a seat available for doing PG, as you see above
for each 1-PG seat available 5-MBBS are trying for it, so if 1-takes it the
rest 4 will remain deprived of it.
We (India) are a large country with huge population, the
Demand Supply Gap for Medical Education that people want is a real issue we
have to live with it and try to improve as much we can, with all round
conscious efforts.
Possibly we can afford ( forego to build) a few airports now and in
place of that we can build Medical Colleges, I am just saying it for example
purpose, there could be other avenues to forego and build more medical colleges
fast and first.
With Best regards,
