THE SIGNIFICANCE AND APPLICATION OF "BOYCOTT" IN A DEMOCRACY
THE SIGNIFICANCE AND APPLICATION OF "BOYCOTT" IN A DEMOCRACY
In a democracy, "BOYCOTT" is a powerful tool of protest by the means of non-violence.
The simple meaning of Boycott is NON-PARTICIPATION or NON-COOPERATION.
When
there are justified reasons for Boycott, this tool is very powerful,
because the people, who are the "Masters of Democracy" are able to see
those reasons, as the best judges for the democracy. As the Masters of
Democracy, the people see those reasons and form their opinions, may not
speak on the face of it.
When Any Side of the Democracy resorts to "Boycott" :
1.
When the Other Side is visibly using/misusing the Might or the Power
Bestowed in its hands for which there is no remedy available in the
hands of the any side.
2. Where
there is Application of Force by the Other Side to do something which
may not be based on the legalities, natural justice, accepted
conventions and accepted norms of the society, which any side is not
able to take a recourse to stop it.
3.
Where any side wants to Protest against use/misuse of power or
application of force by the other side in non-violence means, conveying
that any side is not in agreement of the actions of the other side.
4. Where any side has no-confidence on the other side for its unfair activities but not able to do anything to check it.
In
fact, any side can not be forced to participate or co-operate with the
other side and if any side does not wish to participate or co-operate.
There is nothing to bind any side to participate or co-operate and
prevent from the "Boycott".
Who should mend fences when there is a "Boycott" ?
It
is the responsibility of the Side which is being "Boycotted" to mend
fences with the side "Boycotting"; not the other way. When there are
valid reasons for the "Boycott" all the more the "Onus of the Boycott
not happening" lies with the side which is being boycotted.
Just
firing the Boycotting side (again application of force and use/misuse of might/power) left, right and centre by the side being Boycotted does
not help. As I said, "Mending Fences" with the Boycotters helps.
Ultimately
it is the people, as the Masters of Democracy are watching and seeing
the reasons. If the Boycotter has exposed the valid reasons, there is no
other choice than mending the fences.
The tools of
marketing, event management, publicity and advertising does not help,
when there is a Boycott. As I said, the side being Boycotted , if under
the valid reasons, the mending of fences only helps.
