THE FESTIVALS AS CONTRIBUTORS TO WELL BEING OF THE SOCIETY, REGENERATING AND SHARING FRIENDSHIP AND BROTHERHOOD; AND ECONOMIC PROSPERITY: THE "EASTER" AS ONE OF THE BIGGEST FESTIVALS OF HE WORLD
Two days back, I had written on "Good Friday" elsewhere, today, I am citing and writing here on "Easter" Celebrations happening World Wide. Its a big Celebration Globally.
Let me reiterate, though I do not practice the faith that Celebrates "Easter", however, I have no hesitation on writing about it, to the extent (may be little extent) it has been in my knowledge, as one of the Biggest Festivals Celebrated World Wide only next to "Christmas".
While I write several times and I have written several times in the past about the Big Festivals of my own faith, I feel in all fairness, my writing about the Festivals of our Friends of the other faiths about which I am aware of reasonably ( I repeat I am aware of reasonably, and I do not write about those I do not know reasonably), is in a sense giving our friends the due respect they deserve.
When, may be they themselves are not writing about it extensively in India, being shy of it or out of a sense of reluctance for any reason, I feel its also a matter of my fair duty to place their cause rightfully at the right time writing about this big festival.
What is "Easter" ?
Easter is the 3rd day from Good Friday, from the day of Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, falling on the Sunday, immediate next to Good Friday. The Faith of Christianity believes and accepts it, that Jesus Christ was resurrected on this day to come back to the World again, and provide more light and illumination to the man-kind with message of peace and blissful living. On this day, after the Crucifixion and his burial, when the Disciples of Jesus Christ visited his tomb of burial, his body was not there, it was empty. Hence the faith believes that he was resurrected on "Easter". It is a Week Long Celebration.
I have read yesterday, an article that has been published in The Times of India, one the most respectable Press ( now even digital ) publication of India, with the Headline Title and link given below:
The Economics of Easter: How this Spring Holiday Boosts the Economy.
Its a very interesting article, even for business professionals to read and learn, those who find interest, can read it, it says its economic importance globally.
I am quoting only one sentence from this article which says:
"According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spent a record-breaking $21.6 billion on Easter-related purchases in 2019"
If this is the purchases only in USA, imagine how much would be Globally, all countries put together. In the today's globalized world, it is not what all are purchased as "Easter Purchases" must not have been produced only in USA or only in all those places it is celebrated and purchased, it should have been produced at many other places who are not even celebrating "Easter".
Similarly in India also, the biggest Festivals (of my faith celebrated in big ways) such as "Diwali", "Holi", "Raksha Bandhan", "Dussera" etc etc ( its not exhaustive list, you can add more ), are supposed to be great Economic Contributors otherwise, in addition to their social contribution.
The Festivals other than meeting their social cause, they are also avenues for Income Distribution within the Society, as those who are more rich and prosperous with wealth they tend to spend more and spend lavishly in celebrations and holidaying, and their spendings of wealth and purchasing power directly or indirectly goes towards the income of the other not-wealthy and weaker lots of the society.
Therefore, the Festivals are meant to be celebrated for Sharing Wellbeing, Friendship, Brotherhood and Economic Prosperity as well as Income Distribution within the society, not be fought with Swords, Sticks, Guns and Fire. If the Festivals are Celebrated with Great Tolerance and for Celebration purpose and not showing anyone's might or resisting anyone's might even if it is shown off, it could contribute to be the Best Contributors for the best of the Society, around the Globe, of course in India.
I live at Mumbai (Bombay) in India, last 3-days have been holidays starting from "Good Friday" (Friday) till today the "Easter" day (Sunday) (from 7th April to 9th April 2023) and I can see the Roads, Buildings and all around this Big Metro City have been very quiet and silent to the best.
Globally, "Easter Holidays" have been celebrated with silence and very peacefully; as much opportunities I had in the past to see and observe within my little exposure of the world in last 4-decades at least. I recognize and appreciate it very much. In the past, I had occasions to visit people around the world visiting their homes and sharing lunch and dinner with them during "Easter", I can not forget that Love and Affection so easily.
