They had 17-Nuclear Power Reactors as on 2011 when they made a declaration to exit the Nuclear Power Sector after the Fukushima Nuclear Plant (Japan) accident in 2011,
They have stuck to their declaration and have shut down all the 17 Nuclear Power Stations one after another since 2011, finally by shutting down the last 3 Nuclear Reactors that were in operation as on yesterday, the 15th April 2023.
There are many Publications on it, the Internet is full of articles and publication about it, I am not giving any reference, you can chose and read.
The Decision has been controversial, some calling in favour of it and others in the world calling it a Mistake.
Germans are very Head Strong people it is well known world wide. They decide and do it.
Germany, as per reports has 44% of its production of energy from Renewable Sources which they have consistently built since 2011 and rest of their dependence for energy right now is on Fossil Fuel including Natural Gas.
They plan to go up to 80% of their Energy Production from Renewable Sources in near future horizon.
This is definitely a Historic Turn of Events in the World's Energy Management framework to be seen for future.
I share with you an experience, to illustrate how the People of Germany are not only Head Strong, they keep honesty to their Decisions.
Some years back, I was traveling with a colleague of mine from Frankfurt in Germany to Noremberg, I remember by a Taxi we hired from Frankfurt Airport. There are different routes to reach Noremberg from Frankfurt Airport by road. We were knowing nothing of the road routes and totally unknown and for, the first time. It is a 200-300 kms distance, variable by different routes and the taxi is supposed to take you by the shortest route that is the norm followed there. On the the way, the Taxi Driver stops the car and says to us, "Sir, its my mistake I missed the route on the way, I am going back to take the original route I was supposed to take, you will not be charged for the extra kms to and fro traveled ". He kept record of the fare there and record of the fare from that place to the point he returned. While we got down from the taxi, he did not charge and reduced from the fare, the extra amount involving the to and fro extra distance he had traveled by mistake. I was really impressed with the Taxi Driver, we did not ask any thing him to do, he did everything himself. He displayed a Character I could realize it, though it was not a very big issue.
Let us see how Germany manages its energy now going forward without Nuclear Energy and how the World moves further in energy management, given the considerations of Green House Gas Emission, Climate Change and other Environmental Considerations the World Community is confronted with.
