Dry Shampoo Aerosol Recall of Unilever in USA : Useful Fact to Know in Own Interest

The Global FMCG Major Unilever has voluntarily recalled "Dry Shampoo" Aerosol Formulations manufactured up to October 2021 from USA Market, covering the lineage of some of its premium brands such as Dove, Nexuus, Suave, Tresmme and Bed Head et al, from consumer level.

It is a consumer level Recall, and those who have interest and involvement in marketing of products, may find it interesting to know and the importance of it.

There have been lot of publications over last two days about it, I am giving below the link of a Publication of The Times of India, that was comprehensive and may be useful to many to know this subject matter;


Though the Product Recall has been announced by Unilever from USA markets, it may be useful to know the reason of it as it is linked to the consideration of Human Health Hazard.

The reported reason is said to be the higher level of "Benzene" content observed in the products being recalled.
Benzene is considered to be carcinogenic. The Aerosol Preparations normally use Propane or Butane for giving Spraying Properties to it. Propane or Butane are Petroleum Derivatives produced along with Benzene by refining Crude Oil. Hence Benzene could be a contaminant in Propane or Butane and its presence in higher level than allowed in an aerosol product is a problem.

A Dry Shampoo is a Shampoo that can be used without rinsing the hair with water.
