SHINZO ABE ( FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN ) HAD DEMONSTRATED AND EXEMPLIFIED THE RARE COMMITMENT TO PERFORMANCE AT HIGHEST OFFICES : IT WILL BE REMEMBERED BY THE WORLD

On 28-August-2020, two years back, I had written a very small article and recorded in my Blog ( drnimain.blogspot.com ) with the title as :

“COMMITMENT TO PERFORMANCE AT HIGHEST OFFICES”

It was based on Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan then, while in August 2020 , when due to his health ailment (ulcerative colitis), he had announced his resignation from Office by making his statement as :

“I cannot be Prime Minister if I cannot make the best decisions for the people. I have decided to step down from my post”.

Anybody from public can read the said post at my Blog: drnimain.blogspot.com, as an evidence; I had put in record two years back on 28-August-2020, I am not saying it only today.

Shinzo Abe’s decision in this instance is a case, also for the Management Students to recognize over the history.

He had stepped down from Office at the age of 65 displaying a rare commitment to the Office for not being able to perform (as per his own assessment) for his ailment, being at the highest office of Japan at that time and he had voluntarily offered to step down. While elsewhere, people holding the Chairs of Highest Offices would normally like to cling to it by hook or by crook, and even would like to run the Offices from Hospital beds.

As far as India is concerned, he has been praised across party lines, by tributes from the Hon’ble Incumbent Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi (who has been in office for 8-years by now 2014-2022-till now) and also from Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Hon’ble Former Prime Minister of India  (who has been in office for 10years from 2004 to 2014) covering almost the whole tenure (2006 to 2020) of Mr. Shinzo Abe as PM of Japan, as their friend and also a Great Friend of India which is true. India is observing 1-day Mourning on 09-July-2022 towards this respect to Mr. Shinzo Abe.

Mr. Shinzo Abe had great respect for India and among other things, that respect had also had a historical linkage, to Indian Jurist : Shri Radhabinod Pal,  a member of the United Nations' International Law Commission from 1952 to 1966. Shri Radhabinod Pal was one of three Asian Judges appointed to the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, the "Tokyo Trials" of Japanese war crimes committed during the Second World War, who as the single dissenting Judge, an Indian, had given a dissenting judgement in favour of the Japanese tried for War Crimes at that time.

Wikipedia reports on Shinzo Abe, as an evidence, with respect to Shri Radhabinod Pal as follows:

On 23 August 2007, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Pal's son, Prasanta, in Kolkata, during his day-long visit to the city. Prasanta Pal, now an octogenarian, presented prime minister Abe with four photographs of his father, of which two photographs were of Radhabinod Pal with Abe's grandfather, former Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi. They chatted for half an hour at a city hotel”. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radhabinod_Pal )

While India lost a real Good Friend in Shinzo Abe, the World also lost a good leader yesterday (08-July-2022) by his assassination and untimely departure by death. He will remain remembered by the World.
