YOGA IS MEANT FOR HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF THE SOCIETY (INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA– THE JUNE 21)
YOGA IS MEANT FOR HEALTH
AND WELLBEING OF THE
SOCIETY
(INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA– THE JUNE 21)
At the outset, I intend to make it clear,
that “Yoga” is not a religious or political activity as it is many times
perceived or sometimes made out to look like that, it is a practice, it is an
ancient Wisdom having its origin in India, it has scientific basis and it is
meant for health and wellbeing of the human society. I am also clear I am
not making a political statement in this, but I respect the International Day
of Yoga - the June 21.
By the call of the Indian Nation, the General Assembly of United Nations Organization ( UNO ) allowed inception of the “International Day of Yoga” in the year 2014.
Thereafter, from the year 2015, the June 21 of every year is being celebrated as the “International Day of Yoga
“ World wide.
Although
some times, Yoga is perceived as a Religious Activity by many, it is not a
Religious Activity in reality. Even some perceive it to be an activity having
political connotation and leaning, which in reality is not and can not be so; even if it is some times made out to look like that.
Yoga
has its roots stretched to the Scientific Biologicals of Human Body and Mind.
It is based on serious scientific principles of Human Biology and the effects
of yoga on the body and mind of Humans is well explained by scientific basis.
It
is undisputed, Yoga is an ancient Wisdom having its Origins in India. In the
Ancient times, the Indian Society was more guided by the Yogis (otherwise
called as Sages, Saints, Monks or Sadhus ) who had voluntarily dedicated their lives
and life time for the service of the society selflessly, as the principle of
Service Above Self.
Such
Yogis of Ancient India, had practiced
Yoga as their way of life for remaining physically and mentally fit during
their life time, for remaining disease free in stead of faster biological
degeneration, so that they would be able to guide the society and the people in
general by their illuminated wisdom and knowledge for an orderly society, for
the health and well being of the people in general.
It
is also a fact that it is the Yogis ( or the Sages, Saints, the Monks or Sadhus ) who
mastered the Yoga from ancient times of India to make the other people of the
Society practice Yoga under their guidance.
Since
such Yogis ( or the Sages, Saints, the Monks or Sadhus ) also preached the religious
discourses over the time, Yoga got perceivably mixed with the Religious
Preaching of the Yogis and it got perceived by the world external to India, as
a Religious activity for a very long time (even some perceive it so as on
today) while Yoga is not at all a Religious Activity.
However,
the perception of Yoga as a religious activity ( primarily linked to Hindu
Religion as its Origin is in India and as the Yogis who became the masters of
Yoga to teach it to the other people of the society were also Hindu Religious
saints ) has changed over the years.
The
Secular World has largely accepted Yoga as a healthy practice of physical and
mental exercise for the Good Health and Well being of the Human Society
worldwide.
Other
than India, all around the World, Yoga has been adopted as a practice, as a way of life by
many, more and more people from all walks of life and from all parts of the
World are getting inclined to adopt Yoga as a means of Physical and Mental
Exercise for their health and wellbeing.
The
World is accepting Yoga also as a process, having scientific basis linked to
Human Biology, that can be very well exploited for the benefit of the Humans.
Yoga
is a practice, once learnt and put into use, the person can do it
independently. Once learned and practiced, it has practically no cost for the
life time, as the person can keep practicing it life time without depending on
any other person or any equipment.
“Pranayama”
is a complementary practice within the activity of Yoga. Pranayama is primarily
the Yogic Exercise of Breathing within the over all ambit of Yoga, which
reinforces better breathing for the benefit of the body as well as mind of the
Human.
It
is the “Sage Patanjali” of Ancient India, tracked to 200 B C, the Greatest
Practitioner and Master of Yoga who had first documented the practices of Yoga
in written form, known as the “Yoga Sutras” that have been carried over and
carried forward over the thousands of years and Centuries together as Yoga that
has been adopted worldwide as a means to Healthy Living and Wellbeing of Human
Society.
I
myself personally, an individual with sufficient scientific education and belief as well as relying in science, have been successfully practicing Yoga for more than 22years with my firm
understanding, practical experience and unstinted belief that Yoga has
Scientific basis for Healthy Human Body and Mind as well as systemic and
integrated effect on the Human Biology, which possibly could not be disputed by
the Scientific World. Yoga is not a Religious Activity per se.
Yoga
has no political connotations, it has no political basis even if it may be
promoted or being campaigned worldwide by many organizations or groups of people
having any political affiliations or leanings world wide. It is; and it is a practice having its roots in Ancient Wisdom ( that has origins in India) which can be explained very well with scientific basis, linked to healthy human body and
mind, and having positive effects on human biology for maintaining as well as ensuring
better health of human body and mind. As I explained above, the readers may
kindly be rest assured that Yoga is not a religious activity or a political
activity in any way; and the secular world has already adopted and is
increasingly adopting Yoga as a way of life for better health of human body
and mind.
