PANDIT NEHRU CAN NOT BE HISTORY, HE REMAINS AS ARCHITECT OF MODERN INDIA

PANDIT NEHRU CAN NOT BE HISTORY, HE REMAINS AS ARCHITECT OF MODERN INDIA, THE FIRST AND PRIME MINISTER JUST-IN-TIME; JUST RIGHT PM AT HIS TIMES.

...... Remembering the Children's Day...

When I was a small child, I remember, in late 1960s and 1970s, during my Primary and Secondary School days, the “Children’s Day” falling on 14th November was celebrated in my Schools with similar enthusiasm in its own way, like that of the celebrations done during the Independence Day ( 15th August ) or Republic Day ( 26th January ) at school levels at that time. The 14th November is the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ( born on 14th November, 1889 ), the First Prime Minister of Independent India. Pandit Nehru, was in office as Prime Minister of India close to 17years from 1947 to 1964, till his death in 1964. His birthday was declared to be celebrated as “Children’s Day” in India to keep the unique fondness and love of Pandit Nehru towards the children in general in memory and to acknowledge the contribution of Pandit Nehru for Indian Nation in all times to come by celebrating the “Children’s Day”.

Over a period of time, even within India, although there may be a general reluctance to discuss, commemorate and acknowledge the contributions made by Pandit Nehru towards Indian Nation and even the formally designated “Children’s Day” does not appear to be in the memory lane. Even the media is silent on Pandit Nehru and the Children’s Day.

Pandit Nehru can not be the history, he remains as the Originator and Architect of Modern India. He remains as The First; The Prime Minister Just-in-Time and the just Right PM of India as a Nation needed at his times. It is undisputed fact that Pandit Nehru was a Principal Leader of India’s Freedom Movement and a non-defeating pillar of strength that ensured Independence of India along with Mahatma Gandhi and other statesmen who sacrificed and struggled during the Freedom Movement.

Whatever may be said or not said about Pandit Nehru, it is a fact that, as the First Prime Minister of India, he inherited an Indian Nation as on 15th August 1947 ( India’s Independence Day ), a Nation  badly ravaged by colonial British Rule of close to 400years then, a Nation badly bruised by a partition caused blood bath ( on Independence, in 1947, the pre-independence India was divided to make two nations -India and Pakistan ) and a partition primarily engineered by the outgoing British. India then, was a weak physique, hardly food to feed its people, backward agriculture to produce food, rudimentary industry to manufacture even essentials, devoid of infrastructure to educate, transform and develop, less of resources to march in steps with other Nations of the World.  It was no less daunting a task for Pandit Nehru as the Prime Minister of India then, to make such a Nation march ahead by a regained vigour as we see India today.

The critiques of Pandit Nehru may have their language to say in their way, however, the contributions of Pandit Nehru in terms of leading the Indian Nation at its most crucial time with a badly broken spine caused by British then, designing its modern architecture, consolidating its resources and linkages with the World and establishing the National Infrastructure for growth and development of India at his times, can never be undermined by the Indian Nation. Pandit Nehru had the vision and far-sight as to which route to take, thus he chose to be  Non-Aligned, to be with everyone in the World and draw a leaf of support from every quarter of the World and not to get squeezed and grinded by the cold war between the USSR ( United Soviet Socialist Republic ) Block  and the USA Block at that point of time.

He could plan and establish the Irrigation Dams, Steel Plants, Schools, Colleges, Universities and Institutions of Higher Learning ( Science, Technology and Humanities ), Heavy Industries, Power Plants, Financial Institutions, Defense Infrastructure and Infrastructure of Civil Administration  that were primary need for Development and Nation Building at his times. He could bank upon appropriately on Foreign Support from every quarter of the World to borrow, get grant-in-aid, hire and grab Resource Support and Technological Support  of the whole world to build India in modern lines. He strongly believed and rightly acted in creating the Primary Infrastructure to Educate the Indian Population to handle Agriculture and Industry along with Defense to guard India’s sovereignty.

It was the task at that time, the tough task at the hands of the first Prime Minister, which was performed by Pandit Nehru successfully. May be many other leaders given the opportunity would have failed and would have led India from a ravaged state to a failed state situation not getting into the right direction that Pandit Nehru could take. The intelligence, vision, sophistication and the modern outlook Pandit Nehru harboured with insight, helped him achieve the non-achievable in leading India at a critical time, almost the first two-decades period post-Independence India, which was the do or die period for Independent India.

The real strength of the leader is tested during the period when the Nation passes through the most critical phase of its existence and when its existence is at stake and how the leader drives the nation through the crisis period. Pandit Nehru had testified his leadership during the tough time of India during the first two decades of post-independence period, it is undisputable and the Indian Nation can not afford to undermine the contributions of Pandit Nehru in any way.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s unique and able leadership was available to Independent India just-in-time and his leadership was just-right during the first two decades of the Post-Independence era. It is Pandit Nehru who was able to meet the need and expectation of the Nation at that point of time. For that reason Pandit Nehru can not be pushed back and drowned in the History, but he remains as the Architect with Modern India, he remains The First, the Prime Minister Just-in-Time and the Just-Right PM at his times.

The Children’s Day, the 14th November as the birthday of Pandit Nehru stays to celebrate and commemorate.

( Tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the First Prime Minister of India on his birth day, the Children’s Day on 14th November ).
