THE NAME OF COURAGE CALLED LAL BAHADUR SASHTRI
THE NAME OF COURAGE CALLED
LAL BAHADUR SASHTRI
The Courage cannot be bought by paying a price, neither can
be acquired by occupying a chair of power nor by inheritance. By occupying a
chair of power and inheriting a power centre, although and admittedly one can
display some temporary induced courage but not without limitation. The courage
is a gift that comes with the persona, that came with Lal Bahadur (Shri Lal
Bahadur Shastri, The Former Prime Minister of India). When Lal Bahadur was a
young boy, he didn't care that he had no money to afford a ferry, he dared to
swim the whole of River Ganga if it came to reach his school. While at that
time, many professional divers or swimmers were afraid to swim across the long
stretch of the River Ganga, however, as a small boy, Lal Bahadur did it with
his enormous courage.
He uprightly threw away his family surname at the age of 12 only, to express his disliking for the deep rooted and deep rotten, caste-system of India, while many of his contemporaries were trapped and rotting in the infamous caste system. In fact, Lal Bahadur Shastri was born to Sharada Prasad Srivastava and Ramdulari Devi in Mughalsarai (Uttar Pradesh, India) on 2nd October 1904, sharing his birthday coincidentally with Mahatma Gandhi, and he was rightfully entitled to his family surname “Srivastava” ( as Lal Bahadur Srivastava ). Shastri was the Bachelor Degree awarded to him by his alma mater, Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, however it was honourably attached to his name and people of India liked to retain this honour with his name for ever.
He was not afraid, neither deficient in courage in the National interest, to vehemently declare war against unruly aggressive Pakistan then, raising the Indo-Pak War of 1965 in contemporary times, while India had hardly recuperated from the 350years of British colonialism oppression and had hardly celebrated independence for 17years then, while he led India as her second Prime Minister (PM) being sworn in on 9th June, 1964 and demitted office by his sudden demise on 11th January, 1965. He courageously harvested the Indo-Pak war of 1965 in favour of India with a fruitful Tashkent Agreement with Pakistan even though he had to embrace sudden death on next day of this historic agreement. He dared to travel the un-chartered paths being instrumental in initiation of ‘Green Revolution” to enhance agricultural production and “White Revolution” to enhance dairy production to drive towards food self-sufficiency and the credit of food self-sufficiency in major staple foods and in dairy of India of today can go to him (among others). He did not care to go to jail while his contemporaries were afraid of the tyrant and mighty British raj at his times. He was courageously inspired by Mahatma Gandhi to leave his college and get drowned by the Freedom Movement of India. Lal Bahadur was certainly the " Lal-Bahadur " (the Courageous Son) of mother India. He had the courage to keep foots down to clean both politics, bureaucracy and administration during his 19-months-only regime, while keeping himself spotless in his tenure. He had the unique distinction for the first time to float the slogan “Jai Jawan Jay Kishan” in utmost humility to salute the Farmers (Kishan) with equal importance of the Soldiers (Jawan) while the nation had a hard time during Indo-Pak war of 1965 and the immense pressure of deficit food availability for the masses, to motivate both to stand for the Nation. Generations can't afford but to salute Lal Bahadur for his courage dedicated to India.
